STELLARTON, NS, April 18, 2004………..Following an exciting and packed viewing of Nashville Star at the Heather Hotel, which saw Pictou County’s George Canyon advance to the next round, the municipal leaders of Pictou County joined family, friends and fans of George Canyon to jointly announce the Proclamation of George Canyon Day in the towns of New Glasgow, Stellarton, Westville, Trenton, Pictou and the Municipality of the County of Pictou on Monday, April 19, 2004. New Glasgow Mayor Ann MacLean, Stellarton Mayor Art Fitt, Westville Mayor Sandy Cyr, Trenton Deputy Mayor Jim Fraser, Pictou Mayor Lawrence LeBlanc and Pictou County Warden Allister MacDonald signed the Proclamation and presented an official mounted copy to George Canyon who made a surprise visit to the hotel following the viewing of Nashville Star. Copies of the proclamation will also be displayed in each of the municipalities’ town halls. Bouquets were also presented on behalf of all of the Pictou County municipalities to George Canyon’s wife Jennifer and also to his mother Cheryl Lays.

Whereas
The Municipalities of New Glasgow, Stellarton, Trenton, Westville, Pictou and the County of Pictou are committed to the belief that George canyon, Nashville star finalist, is an extraordinary talent and outstanding ambassador for his hometown area.
Whereas
The residents of New Glasgow, Stellarton, Trenton, Pictou, Westville and the County of Pictou are rooting for George Canyon in his quest for the Nashville Star title.
And Whereas All of Pictou County brings congratulations to George Canyon and his family on this great accomplishment
Now, therefore be it resolved that we Mayor Ann MacLean, Mayor Art Fitt, Mayor Cathy Cotter, Mayor Lawrence LeBlanc, Mayor Sandy Cyr and Warden Allister MacDonald hereby proclaim April 19, 2004 as George Canyon Day in New Glasgow, Stellarton, Trenton, Pictou, Westville, and the County of Pictou.
